About The Cruise
Officially christened in 2003 by Her Dutch Royal Highness, Princess Margriet of the Netherlands, the ms Oosterdam is the second in our series of Vista-class ships. As such she embraces the latest industry and environmental technologies such as her use of a diesel-electric power plant for optimal energy efficiency and an Azipod propulsion system that maximizes maneuverability. Symbolic of Holland America Line's more than 130-year history of circumnavigating the globe, the centerpiece of the ms Oosterdam is a magnificent Waterford crystal globe, prominently displayed in a three-story atrium. One of the largest barrier reefs in the world shines emerald and and turquoise through the crystal-clear waters of New Caledonia. The town of Noumea clusters around a central square and a few tall palms give the Place des Cocotiers restaurants, bistros and chic French boutiques line the streets. And Indonesian, Tahitian and Chinese shops sell everything from shell necklaces to incense burners. Bustling with life, this small, thriving town is the French Riviera of the South Pacific. 
Lifou is the largest of the Loyalty Islands.
Its beaches are superb, the vegetation very dense, there are big forests, huge caves, and a wide variety of landscapes. The people are very friendly and there are good hotel structures with numerous activities awaiting you. 
You've got to hand it to the ingenuity and sense of humour of a people who invented bungee jumping to get their yams in on time. You think Vanuatu's beaches are unbeatable on one island until you reach the next. Divers are delighted at the pristine waters, coral reefs and accessible shipwrecks; vulcanologists' eyes go misty at the mere thought of its many smoking peaks; and naturalists lust after its untouched forests, reefs and extravagant bird life. The islands shimmer with a green that almost hurts the eyes amid an ocean so blue you'd think the picture was doctored. 
On the west coast of Fiji´s largest island, Lautoka is a center for beach resorts and a jumping off place for visits to offshore islands with names like Paradise and Treasure. Spend a day at one of the area´s unspoiled beaches, play a round of golf or enjoy duty-free shopping. 
Fiji was first settled about three and a half thousand years ago. The original inhabitants are now called "Lapita people" after a distinctive type of fine pottery they produced, remnants of which have been found in practically all the islands of the Pacific east of New Guinea, though not in eastern Polynesia. Linguistic evidence suggests that they came from northern or central Vanuatu, or possibly the eastern Solomons.
